SCALA/DUSLA General Meeting & New Officer Recruitment

Come find out what the student chapters of the American Library Association (ALA) and Special Libraries Association (SLA) have planned for 2012—and how you can get involved.

Several current officers are graduating, opening up opportunities for leadership.  Officer positions are open to both on campus and online students.  Help us continue to expand the resources and professional opportunities we provide for all iSchool students.

On campus: Friday, January 27 from 6 - 8 PM in Rush Room 014 (snacks will be served)

Spring Meeting Friday, April 29

Come welcome new members, meet other students and discuss upcoming events. In the spirit of spring, we're having a picnic with pizza in the iSchool garden.

On the agenda:

• Prize giveaway from Library Networking Event
• Professional branding events in May
• Debut of guest blogger series 
• Your ideas for future events (speakers, field trips, quizzo, etc.)
• Volunteer opportunities and upcoming conferences (ALA, SLA)
• Youth Services themed event
• Ways to reach online students

When: Friday, April 29 from 5 - 6 pm.

Where: Rush Garden (in front of of the iSchool building)
If the weather does not cooperate, we'll be in Rush 014.

Elections at Winter meeting

At next Monday's Winter meeting, SCALA will be selecting new officers. If you are interested in becoming an officer or getting more involved in the group, please come! Being a SCALA officer looks great on your resume, connects you with the larger professional organization of the ALA, and can qualify you for perks such as the ALA Conference Student-to-Staff program.

Sign up for Resume Review Night

SCALA's Resume Review Night is only two weeks away! If you come to our Fall Meeting tomorrow (10/13/10, 5:00 PM, Rush Rm 209) you can be among the first to sign up for a slot!

On October 27th, you will have the chance to get your resume critiqued one-on-one with a seasoned librarian who has real hiring experience. They will look at your resume from the hiring librarian perspective and tell you what you can do to make your resume grab the attention of prospective employers.

Online sign ups will be happening soon, but why wait? Come to our Fall Meeting, grab a bite to eat, and sign up to get your resume reviewed before the rest of the crowd.

SCALA/DUSLA/DUSAA happy hour this Thursday!

Celebrate* the new academic year with your favorite student groups this Thursday! Drexel’s student chapters of the American Library Association (SCALA), the Special Library Association (DUSLA) and the Society of American Archivists (DUSAA) will be at Landmark Americana for a special joint Happy Hour from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 23. This is a great opportunity to meet other students in the MS(LIS) program and learn how to get involved in these three groups. Everyone is welcome, and appetizers will be provided.

Landmark is located at 34th and Market streets (in the Drexel recreation center).

"Meet and Greet" Event with ALA Accreditors

Attention LIS Students!
You are Invited to a VERY IMPORTANT iSchool Event

Did you know the iSchool at Drexel was first accredited by the
American Library Association (ALA) in 1927? ALA Accreditation has an
impact on the College's rankings and, more importantly, on the value
of your degree.

This October, an ALA Review Board will be reviewing the iSchool's
MS(LIS), and you can have an impact on the accreditation decision by
attending a special "meet and greet" event with members of the
Accreditation Review Board.
